Janelle Hampton
BRICK Gateway Academy Middle School Principal
Meet our school leadership
About Ms. Hampton:
Ms. Hampton currently serves as Principal of Gateway Middle School (grades 5-8). She holds a Master's degree in educational administration and has taught at all levels, from Pre-K through high school, for over 21 years. Throughout her career, she has served as a teacher, teacher coach, and mentor and has led professional development at the school, district, and state levels.
In addition to her principal certification, she is also certified in PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports), ESL SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol), and Crisis Prevention. She believes in a holistic approach to education. A guiding principle is, "Children don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." She is a servant leader who believes in our mission to break down barriers so that our students, families, and community can strive and achieve.
Why I lead:
“As someone with deep roots in Newark, I’m passionate about the community. I want our students to understand they belong here and have a vital role in the community’s success. At school, we prioritize building strong, trusting relationships, listening openly, and creating space for every student to feel seen, heard, and inspired.”
